First Person View at Work
Before we start, quick apologies for the resolution of the screenshots. A lot of pixelation happens after downloading the recorded footage and screen-capturing it, plus brightening it up for you all.
Hello everyone! Kyle here with my take on the new gameplay that includes first person view. First things first, it looks great! It really does. In fact, after seeing FPV I’ve decided that when I’m by myself in a dungeon, a house or other smaller area, I will be in FPV and will only use 3rd person when out in open world, PvPing or doing a group dungeon with others.
So let’s break down a few things I saw in the new gameplay that peaked my interest. The first thing I noticed was the unsheathing of weapons and how much it reminded me of Skyrim. It really does look smooth and I can imagine the sounds it makes when doing so. I do have to critique that the textures aren’t amazing yet, but hopefully this will be worked on before launch. Do keep in mind that this is a working model and still has flaws to be worked out.
Spells shoot out from your hands! It’s awesome! Not only do spells shoot from your hands but even from other parts of your body as I noticed some kind of dragon breath ability used by a Dragonknight. Very cool stuff!
Something I didn’t notice right away until Josh pointed it out was the damage indicator around your reticle. It’s directional so it let’s you know from what direction you’re being attacked. Obviously this isn’t anything new in games but it’s a welcomed addition to this game and it makes FPV more viable in more situations as mobs can attack from any direction.
Not only do you see your hands during combat but also for miscellaneous things like opening chests and doors which simply adds realism and immersion. Nice touches to the game that will make it even better.
I’m so glad ZOS is taking the time to model all weapons and shields for FPV and giving a large portion of their fanbase a feature they have asked for. They didn’t have to do it and it would have still been a great day without it but this shows the dedication ZOS has in making this a game to bridge the gap between the singleplayer, RPG group and the MMO players. It’s a massive undertaking and this is a giant step in the right direction. We can’t wait to get our hands on this and test it out ourselves.
