Personally as a healer and tank from generic mmos such as wow, rift, and lotro, I think Zenimax needs to tread carefully with the healing. While it is nice to be in the middle of the action cone effects have always been difficult to use especially on targets that or moving around a lot like Zenimax says will be a good idea. In addition, cone effects are practically melee range (cone of cold’s only use is as an escape), and although I believe healers should be aware of everything at all times (perhaps thats the perfectionist in me and what I’ve done over the years) getting in on even the bosses feet seems a bit too close if you’re trying to heal the tank. That said, thinking back to my cleric in rift I also enjoyed to do damage while healing, and the dual weapons could cancel my cone argument out if done right with a templar with a melee weapon doing damage and using skills on your action bars to heal then swapping to a resto weapon to bust out big heals then go back to doing some dps (having been a main healer I think this works best as focusing on magica to increase healing capabilities more than stamina for melee offensive capabilities but that’s just how I’d do it). This way you’re not just running in hoping it hits while trying to not get hit by something and instead you’re already there and therefore get the “focused” heal off sooner (This strategy would probably be most effective with a ranged templar as well for aoe heals on ranged). Also, in all those games aoe heals cost a majority of the mana pool so if it will be a “main long range” heal (though in this game everything should be situational) there must be a compromise whether it is a mix of magic and stamina for an aoe cast or some other solution.

The nord book about Alduin and Akatosh is pretty fun. I’m reading this one this week.
